Having trouble wrapping your hands? No need to worry!
There are several ways to wrap your hands and everyone seems to do it a little differently. What is important is that you are comfortable and protected! I recommend you try a few methods and pick which one works for you. For the sake of this article, I will be teaching you how I wrap my hands and I will include a few videos for various viewpoints and examples.
Step 1: I recommend starting with 180" hand wraps, 120" if you have small hands. Unroll your wraps and begin by wrapping the loop around your thumb. make sure you hand is palm down with your fingers spread.
Step 2: Begin by going across the top of your hand with your wraps then around the wrist. (a lot of wraps will tell you which side to put down) You will want to wrap them about 3 times around the wrist here.
Step 3: Begin working the wraps up your hand, wrap them once around your thumb (some people prefer not to wrap the thumb at all). Once you get to the knuckles make sure your fingers are spread and you will wrap around the knuckles about 3 times as well. Make sure you do not go too far down your fingers or the wraps will slide!
Step 4: Continue wrapping the hand down to the wrist. Go around the wrist one more time then begin bringing the wraps in between each finger. I prefer to go in between 2 fingers, then back down and around the wrist, then back up through the next fingers, but find what works best for you.
Step 5: Once you have gone in between each finger, come back across the knuckles 1-3x depending on how much you have left. You want to make sure you have enough to finish by going around the wrist a few more times and attaching the velcro there.
And just like that, you are ready to go!
Remember, just like everything in boxing (and life), repetition is the father of learning, so practice practice practice and you will have it in no time!
